Management/Supervision - As a Senior Manager of Software Development at Cisco Systems, I have been leading a team of 26 software engineers and managers (including offshore team) in the design & development of infrastructure Software for Cisco products.
- One of my strengths is building strong teams. I have interviewed and hired several top notch engineers in our organization. My team has the reputation of being very dynamic and results oriented.
- One of my personal goals has always been to execute well with the resources I have. I manage the team optimally, ensuring all the members of the team remain motivated and work in the most efficient manner. Active listening, open communication and good working relationship with the engineers help me achieve this.
Project Management - I have planned and delivered multiple projects, often with competing priorities within the highly complex Cisco software release environment, utilizing my years of experience with software development life-cycle from design to software release. This experience includes developing and monitoring project schedules and timelines, identifying critical paths and executing the plans to meet critical milestones
- As a Senior Manager of this core operating system infrastructure group, I was in a position to work with, and influence various business units and cross-functional teams across the company. This presented a challenging opportunity for me, to deliver results in a matrix management environment and has established me as a key leader in our organization.
- I am currently leading Cisco's Software Licensing program which is a large cross functional effort. I have been involved with this project since its inception, from architecture to implementation. Today, we have successfully delivered Cisco's first IOS software licensing on Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series Switch which is a billion dollar product. I worked with several cross-functional teams like Platform Engineering, Customer Advocacy, Manufacturing, IT, Network Management, Product marketing, Legal, Channel partners and field representatives. I also worked with licensing vendors like Macrovision & Safenet to evaluate their licensing architecture, did a proof of concept with both vendors and was instrumental in the selection of the licensing vendor for Cisco.
- Under my leadership, my team has successfully delivered many other projects in diverse areas. Some of those are -
- Cisco IPC - Inter-processor communication - High Availability (Stateful Switchover, In Service Software Upgrade, Stateful Inter-card communication) - Scalability (Message Bundling, Sequence windowing, IPC Multicast) - Embedded System Resource Management - Operating Systems - File systems - Modular OS (ION/IOS on QNX RTOS) Customer Relations / Vendor Management I have handled several critical and high profile customer cases and have experience working with customers at many levels - technical as well as tactical and strategic - Managed software vendors who I did not have direct management authority over, through weekly conference calls for resolving many technical and tactical issues. Some of the vendors that I managed were Cygnus (now RedHat), SafeNet and Macrovision.
- I also have experience managing Cisco offshore partners like HCL and Infosys, India
Software Development - Earlier in my career as a software development engineer in the ISDN team at Cisco Systems, I worked on Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols. Wrote and reviewed code, functional specs and test plans. Worked with customer support engineers to reproduce & resolve customer found problems and mentored new engineers. Also worked with cross-functional teams like marketing and test organizations.
- As a software development engineer in the Compiler team, developed compiler features, qualified & released compilers for Cisco IOS and ENA/IOS-XR software. Wrote many Perl & Shell scripts. Developed a stack decode program that would produce the symbolic stack trace when given the trace back output of a process crash or an error.

- In addition to my networking industry experience at Cisco, I have held management/team leader positions at many different organizations successfully handling a wide variety of technical and non-technical challenges. These organizations were diverse in culture & industries (Space Research, Liquid Packaging and Defense). This gave me a broad range of experience, and proves my abilities to be successful in almost any kind of environment.
- During my graduate school days, I held teaching and research positions at the University of New Mexico. I worked as a research assistant at the High Performance Computing center. I also worked as a teaching assistant and taught an undergraduate class
